WEST HOLLYWOOD — By 9am on Sunday morning, there was chaos on the streets of West Hollywood with two car crashes in the span of 30 minutes. In the first, a car “launched” into a sidewalk parklet in front of BookSoup in a single vehicle crash. The other incident was at Crescent Heights and Fountain, and the unusual circumstance here was that the traffic signal was inoperative. One reader suggested this may have been due to a planned power outage, but we have not confirmed.

Dan Wentzel passed through the intersection and tweeted at the city and Sheriff’s Department to warn of the unsafe situation. [Editors note: The City and Sheriff’s Department do not routinely provide traffic direction at uncontrolled intersections when signals are not functioning.]

Within 20 minutes of Dan’s tweet, a crash had occurred….

Details of the collisions were still being determined as the investigations were underway on scene at the time of this post.

For the crash on Sunset, reader @SoCalGecko on Twitter initially though the vehicle was headed eastbound but later revised his theory to the car coming down from Horn at a high rate of speed.
