WaPo: How Attacks Against Schiff Are Escalating Online

Trump says ‘treason.’ His fans invoke violence. How attacks against Adam Schiff are escalating online.

WASHINGTON (Washington Post) — Hours after President Trump mused online about whether the Democratic lawmaker leading the impeachment inquiry should be “arrested for treason,” a 53-year-old mother of four in Wisconsin retweeted Trump’s post to her few hundred followers and added her own take.

“SHIFTY SHIFF NEEDS TO BE HUNG,” wrote Jean Spanbauer, a onetime supporter of President Barack Obama. She had adopted Trump’s epithet for Rep. Adam B. Schiff (Calif.), slightly misspelling his name.

“As you can see, my tweets are pretty passionate,” Spanbauer, who uses a different name online, said in an interview, adding that she doesn’t specifically wish anyone physical harm. “It hits very close to home for me. What the Democrats are doing to our president, to the office and to the people of this country is disgusting.”

As Trump and his allies have aimed increasingly caustic language at Schiff in recent days, the attacks have been echoed by supporters on social media who often take the message a step further — invoking physical violence against one of the most prominent Democrats overseeing the inquiry that now threatens Trump’s […]

Trump supporters are vermin – see: Magabomber Cesar Sayoc; see: El Paso hate shootings; see: David Duke – and they’re radicalized into even more violence at these Trump rallies they go to, where he triggers them to attack his opponents online and in person. This whole hate machine needs to be scrapped and tossed on the junkheap of America’s ugliest chapters.

Los Angeles County Announces Six New Deaths Related to
2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) with 344 New Cases of Confirmed in Los Angeles County today.

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (Public Health) has confirmed six new deaths and 344 new cases of 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).  All of the five deaths reported yesterday occurred in people over the age of 60 who had underlying health conditions. Additional information regarding some of the new cases is pending further investigation. Over the last 48 hours, there have been 601 new cases.

West Hollywood is up to 50 cases. Beverly Hills has 21, Hollywood 38, Hollywood Hills 23, Melrose area 56. The County was previously reporting Park La Brea numbers but has made changes to the current report that does not include this at a distinct stat.

To date, Public Health has identified 1804 cases across all areas of LA County, including 32 deaths.  Upon further investigation, three cases reported earlier were not LA County residents. As of today, 398 positive cases (22% of positive cases) have been hospitalized.

On March 27, a Health Officer Order was issued to temporarily close all beaches and hiking trails throughout the entire County due to recent dramatic increases in COVID-19 cases, and increased usage of beaches and hiking trails by many groups of people.  It is imperative that everyone, collectively, take action to slow the spread of COVID-19. County and City Parks may remain open for passive recreational activities. Persons using the parks are required to practice social distancing at all times.  The Order will continue through April 19.

“We are sad to announce six additional deaths from COVID-19 today,” said Barbara Ferrer, PhD, MPH, MEd, Los Angeles County Public Health Director. “More than ever, it is crucial that we practice social distancing, and if we are sick, even with mild illness, we make every effort to self-isolate from others for at least 7 days.  Those who have been in close contact with a person who is positive for COVID-19 should self-quarantine for 14 days.   Please do your part to not infect others or become infected yourself by adhering to the public health directives and practicing social distancing whenever you do go outside. If we all commit ourselves to stay home, stay away from others when sick, and stay 6 feet apart when out, we will save lives. “

Public Health has issued the following guidance for people with mild illness during this time of increased spread:

  • If you are mildly sick, stay home for at least seven days and until 72 hours after being fever and symptom free. Call your doctor if you are concerned and/or your symptoms worsen. Individuals who are elderly, have underlying health conditions or pregnant should consider contacting their providers earlier when they are sick.

Additional things you can do to protect yourself, your family and your community are on the Public Health website, www.publichealth.lacounty.gov.

More Than 100 Virus Cases To-Date in WeHo & Adjacent Areas; Youth Dies

Published

on

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (Public Health) has confirmed three new deaths and 128 new cases of 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). One individual was a youth under the age of 18, and two other individuals were between 50-70 years old.

There have now been over 100 reported cases in West Hollywood and adjacent areas. Today, West Hollywood added 8 cases to rise to a total of 31. Surrounding areas have risen to the following: Hollywood 19, Hollywood Hills 9, Beverly Hills 12, Melrose 26, Park La Brea 8.

Of the deaths, one of the individuals between 50-70 years old had underlying health conditions and resided in West Adams, the other is from a location that is still under investigation. The individual under the age of 18 resided in Lancaster. Because there are positive cases across the entire County, the public should not think one location is safer than the other. Additional information regarding some of the new cases is pending further investigation. Over the last 48 hours there have been 256 new cases.

To date, Public Health has identified 662 cases across all areas of LA County, including 11 deaths. This includes one new death reported by Long Beach yesterday.  Upon completion of investigations, two cases reported earlier were not LA County residents. As of today, 119 positive cases have been hospitalized.

Public Health is investigating all new cases and will notify close contacts who are household members, intimate partners and healthcare professionals to assess and monitor them for signs and symptoms of illness. All confirmed cases are being isolated and close contacts are quarantined.  It is critically important that everyone adheres to all the social distancing measures and practice good public health hygiene, including washing hands as frequently as possible.

“Each loss we experience in LA County is tragic, and we are sending our heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones who’ve had to endure this tragedy,” said Barbara Ferrer, PhD, MPH, MEd, Los Angeles County Public Health Director. “COVID-19 does not discriminate by age, race or income level, and what we are seeing in places like New York is indicative of what we should prepare to experience here. While Public Health is doing everything possible to mitigate the impact of this disease in our community, we can only flatten the curve if EVERYONE takes social distancing seriously and adheres to all isolation and quarantine orders issued by our Health Officer.”

On March, 21 Public Health issued an enhanced Health Officer Order to reconcile elements in the March 19 Health Officer Order necessary to be consistent with the Governor’s Order.  The enhanced Order prohibits all gatherings and events, and clarifies that golf courses and personal grooming services (including hair and nail salons) are non-essential services that should remain closed.  The Order can be found online: http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/media/Coronavirus/

Public Health has issued the following guidance during this time of increased spread:

  • If you are mildly sick, stay home for at least seven days or until 72 hours after being fever free, whichever is longer. Call your doctor if you are concerned and/or your symptoms worsen. Individuals who are elderly, have underlying health conditions or pregnant should consider contacting their providers earlier when they are sick.

Public Health reminds LA County residents to do their part and adhere to the Order by always practicing social distancing.

Additional things you can do to protect yourself, your family and your community are on the Public Health website.

LA County Jumps to 61 New Virus Cases, WeHo Adds 3 Cases

Published

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (Public Health) has confirmed 61 new cases of 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). Over the last 48 hours there have been 101 new cases.  Because there are positive cases across the entire County, the public should not think one location is safer than the other.  Additional information regarding some of the new cases are pending completion of an investigation.

To date, Public Health has identified 292 cases across all areas in LA County including two deaths, so everyone needs to practice social distancing and good public health hygiene. West Hollywood is up to 15 cases from 12 yesterday. Beverly Hills has 5 cases to date, Hollywood has 7, Hollywood Hills has 2, and “Melrose” has 11 cases.

Public Health is investigating these cases and will notify close contacts who are household members, intimate partners and healthcare professionals to assess and monitor them for signs and symptoms of illness. All confirmed cases are being isolated and close contacts are quarantined.

“Our State, County and Local leaders have entered the next phase in protecting the health of our population and slowing the spread of COVID-19,” said Barbara Ferrer, PhD, MPH, MEd, Los Angeles County Public Health Director. “Non-essential businesses are ordered to close and everyone is ordered to be safe at home unless you are an essential worker. Essential services –  those that ensure we have our medicine and healthcare, food to eat, water to drink, communications and electricity – may all remain open and operating.  We thank all of those who are working in these essential roles for their service during these very difficult times.”

An enhanced Health Officer Order was issued on March 19 closing all nonessential business and restricting all gatherings and events; the Order continues the previous closure and the new closures through April 19, 2020. The Order can be found online: http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/Coronavirus/

Public Health has issued the following guidance during this time of increased spread:

If you are mildly sick, stay home for at least seven days or until 72 hours after being fever free, whichever is longer. Call your doctor if you are concerned and/or your symptoms worsen. Individuals who are elderly, have underlying health conditions or pregnant should consider contacting their providers earlier when they are sick.

Public Health reminds LA County residents to do their part by adhering to the Order by always practicing social distancing.
