LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) — Los Angeles might be making headlines with its homeless problem lately, but Skid Row hasn’t kept visitors from lavishing two of the city’s hotels with top marks.

Condé Nast Traveler this week revealed its 32nd annual Readers’ Choice Awards, which tallied the votes of more than 600,000 travelers to come up with its ranking of the best 50 hotels in the world.

“The way we travel today has changed significantly, and we know that is front and center in people’s desires and conversations,” Melinda Stevens, editor-in-chief of Condé Nast Traveler, said. “As our readers continue to explore, we continue to listen. Our readers’ curiosity shapes our inspiration and ultimately our next adventure, and based on this year’s list, we’ll be making plenty of new discoveries.”

Several marquee choices filled the lineup, but there were also more than a few surprises sprinkled throughout. In Los Angeles, for instance, iconic hotels like the Beverly Hills Hotel, the Chateau Marmont and the Beverly Wilshire spring immediately to mind. But none of them topped the rankings.
