The Standard debuts sixth hotel in London

The Standard hotel in London

(Forbes) The Standard, London is the international debut and sixth property of an American hotel brand that has long been admired for the innovative approach and creative flare with every hotel it has opened. The group’s first hotel, The Standard, Hollywood, opened twenty years ago on Sunset Strip in West Hollywood and since then four others have launched in Los Angeles, New York and Miami.

The London hotel, the first property outside of the United States, will be followed, over the next five years, with more international openings in the Maldives, Milan, Paris, Lisbon, Bordeaux, Mexico City, Bangkok, Jakarta, Ko Samui and Phuket.

The latest property is conveniently located in the lively Kings Cross area with Eurostar and St Pancras train station across the road and the shops and cafes of Coal Drops Yard and Granary Square just a short stroll away. The hotel is in a Brutalist concrete building that, from 1974 -2014, housed the Camden council offices.

The choice of this property was in keeping with the group’s creative ethos of using interesting old buildings to repurpose as luxury hotels. The Standard, Hollywood was a retirement home while The Standard, Miami was a 1950s motel. In fact, the only purpose built hotel in the group, built from the ground up, is The Standard, High Line in New York.
