Rideshare Rapist: Police Seek to ID Third Victim, Others

LOS ANGELES — Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department say they have discovered evidence of another possible victim of a man alleged to have sexually assaulted two other women picked up from a West Hollywood nightclub. They have not yet been able to identify this third victim and they seek her identity.

The assault may have occurred during the early hours of Thursday, January 16, 2019.

Police believe that there are many additional unidentified victims.

The first reported incident occurred in October 2018. The victim consumed alcoholic drinks inside of a night club in West Hollywood. The victim left the night club alone, and intoxicated.

The suspect approached the victim, and offered a ride home at a fare lower than rideshare services. The intoxicated victim agreed, and subsequently lost consciousness on the way home due to level of intoxication. When the victim regained consciousness, in the back seat of the vehicle being sexually assaulted by the suspect.

The second reported incident involved a different victim attending the same night club in September 2019. The victim attended the club with friends and consumed alcoholic beverages inside of the club. The victim left the club alone and intoxicated.

The victim had lapses of awareness, and recalled being in the suspect’s vehicle after leaving the club. The victim lost consciousness in the suspect’s vehicle, and awoke to the sexual assault.

During the investigations, both victims identified suspect Dayvid Sherman. In both incidents, Sherman was providing transportation services in a large Black SUV.

On October 3, 2019 at 11:35 a.m., LAPD detectives arrested Sherman for 261(a)(3) PC, Rape of an Intoxicated Person, which is a felony. Bail was set at $200,000.00.

Sherman is described as a 48-year-old, male, Black, black hair, brown eyes, and standing at 6 feet 2 inches tall.

LAPD cautions people not to take rides from anyone other than the person on a rideshare app, and to verify that it is the driver and vehicle they ordered.
