HOLLYWOOD (KABC) — Dancing is just one of the ways people are turning their self-isolation at home into opportunities to feel connected to those around them.
On Friday, residents of a Hollywood apartment complex on Whitley Avenue danced it out on their balconies as a DJ blasted some music for them. They’ve started the weekly singalong and dance fest featuring DJ Shammy Dee who plays from the rooftop of his apartment building.
Participants says the goal is to lift spirits and create a community bonding […]
Laurel Canyon Hosts Porch Concerts Amid Stay Home Order
LAUREL CANYON (KABC) — Many are turning to music to provide some much needed relief during the coronavirus pandemic.
From DJs hosting social media dance parties to virtual sing-alongs, many are finding creative ways to connect with others while, of course, apart. While they can’t play at public venues, a group of musicians in Laurel Canyon have found a way to still do what they love while lifting neighborhood spirit.
On Saturday evenings, the musicians set up porch concerts for all residents to step outside and enjoy.
Bill Bonk, a former professional musician and music teacher, his 13-year-old daughter and 14-year-old neighbor have taken it upon themselves to play music in front of a physically distanced audience standing in a […]
Believe the Hype: Public Enemy to Perform at Bernie Sanders Rally in L.A. – Mar 1
by Genevieve Marie
DOWNTOWN — This morning tons of internet users were surprised to discover that a new Public Enemy / Bernie Sanders poster was legit- at first, many had commented, they thought it was meme art.
It’s true: the hip-hop pioneers are set to perform at a rally for Bernie Sanders, at the Los Angeles Convention Center on Sunday, March 1.
Public Enemy have always been politically outspoken through their music and interviews. Their iconic 1988 track “Fight the Power” was famously featured in the opening sequence to Spike Lee’s “Do The Right Thing,” in which Rosie Perez rocks out with a fierceness some of us could only dream of.
The free concert and political rally- takes place just two days before Super Tuesday, when 14 states including California hold primary elections.
Other special guests include comedian Sarah Silverman and beloved actor Dick Van Dyke. Ohio State Senator Nina Turner, seen by many of Bernie’s supporters to be his likely running mate, is expected to be in attendance as well: she tweeted the poster art with a short and sweet “Thank you @MrChuckD for your support of our campaign! #BernieBruh #Bernie2020 #BigUs“
Another surprising endorsement made in a recent announcement was Boots Riley, a Union Activist and Director of the film “Sorry to Bother You” who says he will be voting for the first time for the Vermont Senator, who is leading in polls and popular vote so far.

There is a moment happening in which people organizing on the job all around the US can organize and withhold labor collectively- with workstoppages, general strikes and other solidarity strikes around an identified set of reforms. The people are getting there, but this won’t happen unless radicals act on the moment, work with the current movement, and organize on the job with this in mind. I’m voting for Bernie because I want us to get into this situation.
Sunday, March 1, Los Angeles Convention Center, South Hall, S Figueroa StLos Angeles, CA 90015
Doors open at 3:00 p.m., the event starts at 5:00 p.m.
“If you vote-by-mail,” the event page states, “be sure to bring your ballot with you so we can cast our votes for Bernie together before the rally kicks off.”
If you are unsure about your voter status, check out vote.org and figure it out in as little as a minute.
So Cal Hollywood Bowl’s 2020 Season Is Pure Fireworks

And thousands of those Southern Californians, as well as a host of tune-loving visitors, will soon fill in the boxes, seats, and benches at the world-famous venue for a great slate of amazing music, movies, and performances.
