LA Philharmonic Takes Over Operation of Renovated Ford Theatres

LOS ANGELES (Los Angeles Business Journal) –The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association will take over operation of the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre Complex starting Dec. 1 after a unanimous vote from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Nov. 12.

The Philharmonic Association also operates the neighboring Hollywood Bowl and will begin programming for the Ford Theatres in the 2020 season.

“This partnership brings together two of L.A.’s cultural gems, and we are confident that the sum will be even greater than the parts,” L.A. County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, whose district includes the Ford Theatres, said in a statement.

WeHo ‘Winter Sounds’ Presents Dhara World Music on Jan 11

WEST HOLLYWOOD — Winter weekend evenings in WeHo are filled with modern classical, jazz and world music as the City of West Hollywood presents its 2019/2020 Winter Sounds Free Indoor Concert Series.

The concerts are on the second Saturday of the month at 5 p.m. through February 2020.

The January concert features Dhara World Music, a multi-faceted group that features Vineet Vyas, Rajib Karmakar, James Waterman, Joseph Salcedo, and Amir Oosman.

Each member has studied the traditions of Indian music, West African rhythms, Persian music, Latin percussion, and more. Dhara seamlessly fuses these backgrounds and idioms to bring audiences a unique experience.

Next Show: Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 5 p.m. at the City of West Hollywood’s Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room at West Hollywood Library, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard.

City of West Hollywood Winter Sounds concerts are free to attend and while RSVPs are not required, they are requested at weho.org/wintersounds. Limited first-come, first-served seating will be available in the Council Chambers.

Tanya Tucker’s ‘Bring My Flowers Now’ Stuns Troubadour Audience

WEST HOLLYWOOD (Rolling Stone) — During a two-night stint at the fabled Troubadour in West Hollywood this past October, Tanya Tucker mixed classic hits, such as “San Antonio Stroll” and “It’s a Little Too Late (to Do the Right Thing Now),” with songs from her multiple-Grammy-nominated While I’m Livin’.

A blend of material exhibiting her decades-long gift for ballsy swagger and tender reflection, Tucker’s live show at the Troubadour included a devastatingly gorgeous rendition of the song that gave her current LP its title.

Free ‘Winter Sounds’ Indoor Concert Series: Nick Mancini Quartet Dec 14

WEST HOLLYWOOD — Experience Winter weekend evenings filled with modern classical, jazz, and world music as the City of West Hollywood presents its 2019/2020 Winter Sounds Free Indoor Concert Series.

The concert series takes place on the second Saturday of the month at 5 p.m. from December 2019 through February 2020.

The series will kick-off with the Nick Mancini Quartet. Vibraphonist Nick Mancini has been performing professionally since the age of 15.

Nick Mancini earned his masters degree from Manhattan School of Music and spent 10 years honing his craft in New York City before relocating to Los Angeles.

He’s performed and recorded with a wide range of artists including Arturo Sandoval, Kamasi Washington, Peter Erskine, Poncho Sanchez, and Solange.

As both a band leader and side man, Nick has appeared at some of New York’s most notable venues such as the Apollo Theater, Birdland, The Blue Whale, as well as appearing at the LACMA Friday Night Jazz series.

City of West Hollywood Winter Sounds concerts are free to attend and while RSVPs are not required, they are encouraged at wintersounds.
