L.A. Might Restrict Tour Vans After Complaints From Hollywood Hills Residents

HOLLYWOOD HILLS (KTLA) –Hollywood Hills residents and tour companies are at odds as the Los Angeles City Council seeks to more tightly regulate buses and vans passing through roads some say are dangerous.

The council’s Transportation Committee recommended new rules this month to ban tour buses and vans from driving through roads marked as unsafe by the Department of Transportation.

City Issue: Should Cars be Banned on Broadway in Downtown LA?

LOS ANGELES (Los Angeles Times)– Councilman Jose Huizar has asked the city to study a ban on private cars along Broadway between 1st and 12th streets in downtown L.A.

Banning cars from downtown streets is beginning to catch on in major U.S. cities, with New York and San Francisco moving to free up space for transit vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists. But the trend hasn’t come to Los Angeles — yet.

A proposal introduced by Los Angeles Councilman Jose Huizar could change that. The councilman asked city officials last week to study the feasibility of a ban on driving and parking along a 1.5-mile stretch of Broadway between 1st and 12th streets.

Broadway is “an ideal street to go car-free,” Huizar said, because narrower roadways and expanded space for pedestrians have already begun to transform the iconic corridor. […]

Hollywood Street Closures Are Already Starting for Oscars

HOLLYWOOD (Patch) — Road closures have begun and will increase as the 92nd Academy Awards approach. All lanes of Hollywood Boulevard will be closed overnight Tuesday evening between Orange Drive and Highland Avenue as work slowly begins on the installation of bleachers and the red carpet for the upcoming Academy Awards ceremony.

The northernmost curb lane of Hollywood Boulevard, along with much of the north sidewalk, was closed Sunday in front of the Hollywood & Highland complex and Dolby Theatre and will remain blocked until Feb. 12.

Tuesday night’s full closure of Hollywood Boulevard will begin at 8 p.m., continuing until 6 a.m. Wednesday.

400 N Block Crescent Dr Closed for Vanity Fair Party 1/29 – 2/13

BEVERLY HILLS (Local Nixle) — Vanity Fair will be hosting its annual Post-Academy Awards Party along the 400 block of North Crescent Drive on the evening of Sunday, February 9.

As crews begin work to assemble the stage and venue directly on the west side of City Hall, Crescent Drive between North Santa Monica Boulevard and South Santa Monica Boulevard will be closed beginning Wednesday, January 29 through Thursday, February 13.

All merchants on Crescent Drive are open and accessible during the partial closure.

Motorists are urged to use alternates routes and heed all directional signage.
