Dubai in WeHo? Some Residents Loathe New Viper Room Plans

WEST HOLLYWOOD (CurbedLA) — The claw-like development would create a new home for the Viper Room. Residents erupted in anger when West Hollywood city staffers announced Thursday night that the aesthetics of a Morphosis-designed redevelopment of the Viper Room on the Sunset Strip would not be considered in a state-mandated environmental analysis.

“Who decided that aesthetics wouldn’t be considered?” Susan Milrod asked, shouting.

“That’s why I came here,” another resident added.

The city of West Hollywood hosted the public meeting to update residents on the project, review the environmental impact report process, and get feedback from the community. They got an earful.

Plus Development, cofounded by Tyrone McKillen, the agent who developed and sold Beyonce and Jay-Z their Bel Air house, is planning to raze the Viper Room and reincorporate it into two […]

La Brea Willoughby Coalition Appeals City’s Decision on 843 North La Brea … Want to Protect Citizen Rights

by Lucille Saunders, La Brea Willoughby Coalition President

La Brea Willoughby Coalition continues its fight to protect the quality of life, as well as the character and scale of the La Brea-Willoughby neighborhood in Hollywood by focusing on clarifying and enforcing all zoning laws. The coalition’s latest fight concerns the project located at 843 North La Brea Blvd. (See architectural rendering above.) The LA City’s December 17, 2019 approval of the project prompted the coalition to file its appeal on January 2, 2020.

Tenant group files suit against developer of Hollywood project over displaced renters

HOLLYWOOD (KABC) — Renters at an apartment complex in Hollywood say they’re being forced to leave by developers who want to put up a multi-million dollar project that includes new apartments and a hotel.

The Los Angeles Tenants Union took their protest to court and announced they were filing a lawsuit.

“It is obvious they don’t want these people to be able to return to their community,” said Susan Hunter from the Los Angeles Tenants Union.

“I have nowhere to go as of yet,” said tenant Danny Hernandez, who has been in his apartment for 11 years. He says he’s lived his entire life in Hollywood and can’t afford to move.”It’s always been home. It’s where I live, where I grew up. It’s my neighborhood. I work not too far […]

Harridge sued a second time over $1B Crossroads of the World project

LOS ANGELES — Harridge Development Group is going to court a second time over its massive Crossroads of the World development in Hollywood, this time with a local tenant group that alleges the developer illegally coerced renters out of their apartments.

The L.A. Tenants Union and three individual tenants filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Friday, with claims that the Beverly Grove-based developer has violated a condition of the city approving its mixed-use project, which is that tenants have a right to return to the new development without an accompanying rent hike.

The project, which was approved by the city in January , includes 905 new apartments and condos in three high-rise buildings, 308 hotel rooms, […]
