Some big name upcoming appearances at local bookstores…

Rob Lowe at Barnes & Noble at The Grove, Friday, April 29, 12:30 p.m.

Come one! Come all! Rob Lowe, one of Hollywood’s shining stars, will be at Barnes & Noble for a special signing of his book, Stories I Only Tell My Friends – a wryly funny and surprisingly moving account of an extraordinary life lived almost entirely in the public eye. This will be a wrist-banded event. Wristbands will be distributed on Friday, April 29th beginning at 9:00 am with a purchase of the book. A limited number of wristbands will be reserved for Barnes & Noble members and will designate priority placement in line. Lettered, colored wristbands will be for the signing line. Lineup will begin at 11:00 am on the day of the event, according to wristband letter. Please be advised, all in attendance for this event must be in line by 12:00 pm. No other memorabilia will be signed, and personalization and posed photography will not be available.

Larry Flynt & David Eisenbach at Book Soup on Wednesday, May 4, 7:00 p.m.

Larry Flynt & David Eisenbach discuss and sign One Nation under Sex: How the Private Lives of Presidents, First Ladies and Their Lovers Changed the Course of American History. From Booklist: “Assisted by history-professor Eisenbach, Flynt, the controversial publisher of Hustler and highly vocal First Amendment crusader, takes readers on a rousing and surprisingly educational history of the U.S. OK, it’s not your grandmothers history textbook: this one focuses on the seamier side of American history. But, let’s face it, the country didn’t get where it is today without its share of sex scandals and shenanigans. From Alexander Hamilton’s financial arrangement to sleep with another man’s wife, to Bill Clintons, um, indiscretion, the country’s history was shaped, in a very real sense, by the lusty behavior of its movers and shakers.”

Kara Dioguardi at Book Soup, Saturday, May 7, 12:00 p.m.

Kara Dioguardi discusses and signs A Helluva High Note: Surviving Life, Love, and American Idol. Kara is an award-winning hitmaker, a savvy record executive, and a successful music publisher, and she was also the feisty fourth judge on American Idol. But success wouldn’t have happened for this songwriter, artist, and producer without the dark times of defeat. Filled with the grace, raw honesty, and haunting emotion of her hit songs, A Helluva High Note is the soundtrack to Kara’s life—an intimate anthem about living, creating, loving, stumbling, picking herself up again, and ultimately succeeding. It is a moving chronicle of the experiences that have inspired her songs and given her the resilience and perspective to become the confidant, accomplished, adventurous warrior she is today.
