8 Queer Music Milestones You Might Not Know About

(Billboard Magazine) — LGBTQ music history is so much more than a timeline of who came out when and which songs became gay anthems. It’s also about the artists who weren’t afraid to be themselves in eras when doing so often had personal and professional risks attached — eras when we didn’t even have the language to talk about gender and sexuality the way we do now.

As Adam Lambert said in Billboard’s first Pride Roundtable , “A lot of people I meet in this generation coming up aren’t necessarily aware of everything that has come before them.” For Billboard’s 2019 Pride Issue, we look back on and celebrate the artists and movements that paved the way for countless other LGBTQ artists today.

It’s a summer-sweet night scene that’s been happening at the Hollywood Bowl for decades now, a can’t-duplicate-it moment that signifies the season for thousands of Southern Californians.

WeHo ‘Winter Sounds’ Presents Dhara World Music on Jan 11

WEST HOLLYWOOD — Winter weekend evenings in WeHo are filled with modern classical, jazz and world music as the City of West Hollywood presents its 2019/2020 Winter Sounds Free Indoor Concert Series.

The concerts are on the second Saturday of the month at 5 p.m. through February 2020.

The January concert features Dhara World Music, a multi-faceted group that features Vineet Vyas, Rajib Karmakar, James Waterman, Joseph Salcedo, and Amir Oosman.

Each member has studied the traditions of Indian music, West African rhythms, Persian music, Latin percussion, and more. Dhara seamlessly fuses these backgrounds and idioms to bring audiences a unique experience.

Next Show: Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 5 p.m. at the City of West Hollywood’s Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room at West Hollywood Library, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard.

City of West Hollywood Winter Sounds concerts are free to attend and while RSVPs are not required, they are requested at weho.org/wintersounds. Limited first-come, first-served seating will be available in the Council Chambers.
