Car Burglary Suspects Pursued From WeHo to Castaic

WEST HOLLYWOOD — Three suspects were in custody on numerous charges on Tuesday night following a pursuit that started in West Hollywood and ended in Castaic, and TV news helicopters caught it on camera. The people in the vehicle were suspects in vehicle burglaries reported while in progress by alert citizens.

NBCLA reports that “the California Highway Patrol took over the chase on the 5 Freeway near Magic Mountain Parkway, and the vehicle switched off its lights and was driving blacked out when the CHP pulled up behind it.”

Sheriff’s headquarters said:

DRIVE SAFE & EXPECT DELAYS if you’re on the North 5 freeway near Santa Clarita area. CHP in hi-speed pursuit. Pursuit began at our @WHDLASD station regarding a call for a vehicle burglary. #LASD no longer in pursuit. Speeds at 148MPH!

Spike strips were successfully deployed and brought the pursuit to an end on the northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway near Lake Hughes and Magic Mountain around 8:20pm. The suspects didn’t immediately cooperate, however, backing up traffic for miles.

And later….

#LASD en-route to transport suspects who were taken into custody by #CHP AND even though we would love to take credit for the spike strips, #LASD did not deploy the spike strips… it was the super fast CHP units. #TeamWork

“Thank You to the vigilant community members who call our station when there are crimes in progress,” tweeted the WeHo Sheriff’s Station. “Today a few burglars were taken into custody after a high-speed pursuit.”
