Gay & Lesbian Center to Honor Chaz Bono at Gala

Writer, actor, musician and transgender activist Chaz Bono (Dancing with the Stars) will be honored at the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center’s 40th Anniversary Gala & Auction, hosted by Leslie Jordan (The Help) and featuring Jane Lynch (Glee) on Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel. As was previously announced, Neil Patrick Harris and partner David Burtka will also be honored. Bono, who will be honored with the Center’s Board of Directors award, has been a trailblazer in transgender activism, publicly sharing his experience transitioning to male in the documentary Becoming Chaz. Since 1995, he has been a dedicated activist in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community, having served as a spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign and Entertainment Media Director for the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD).

Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka to Be Honored

Emmy-winning stage and screen star Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) and his partner, actor and chef David Burtka, will be honored at the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center’s 40th Anniversary Gala & Auction on Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Westin Bonaventure in downtown Los Angeles. Harris and Burtka are steadfast supporters of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) organizations, including the Center. They’ve given generously to help LifeWorks, the Center’s youth development and mentoring program, thrive. The two have been out publicly for years, and as the proud fathers of twins they’re the perfect pair to join the Center in celebrating “40 Years of Family” at the gala.

Thursday Declared ‘Motley Crue Day’ in Weho for SSMF

The City of West Hollywood has announced that Thursday, August 18, 2011 will be declared MÖTLEY CRÜE Day in West Hollywood. In addition, MÖTLEY CRÜE will be honored as the 2011 recipients of the “Elmer Valentine Award” for their contributions to the history of The Sunset Strip. The invitation-only award ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. at the House of Blues and kick off the fourth annual Sunset Strip Music Festival, a three-day celebration of music held along the iconic 1.6 mile stretch of Sunset Boulevard on Thursday, August 18, 2011 through Saturday, August 20, 2011. “So many of us native Angelenos consider MÖTLEY CRÜE to be our ‘home boys,’” said West Hollywood Mayor John Duran. “It will be an honor to recognize the ‘Saints of Los Angeles’ in our hometown and thank them for the incredible contribution they made to hard rock, glam and Southern California music,” continued Mayor Duran.
