Rescue of the Week: Snowball, an Adorable Poodle

by Brian Watson, Co-Owner, Posh Pet Care

Snowball is a ‘plug and play’ four year old white male poodle who was found on August 12th and brought to the Baldwin Park shelter and is now in need of a loving home. Weighing fifteen pounds, this well socialized boy has a microchip and we have tried to contact his owner – but with no success as yet. Snowball knows how to sit on command and appears to be housebroken. Sadly, Snowball’s’ owner has not been located to come to get him, so he is now available for adoption. Snowball will be a perfect indoor pet for any living situation.

Squirrel Rescued from Sticky Fate in La Brea Tar Pits

A poor little squirrel took an unfortunate misstep two weeks ago into the sticky muck of the La Brea Tar Pits, but thanks to witnesses who intervened and found a rescue organization to help the poor creature, the squirrel is now doing well. A team started the squirrel cleaning process by first donning hazardous material suits due to the chemicals involved. Using mineral oil to break up the tar and oil, they began the process of cleaning. Numerous buckets of warm water and two large bottles of dish washing soap were run through as well. Despite being terrified through the ordeal, the rescue organization reports that the squirrel is now eating on its own and is showing healthy signs of anger about being captive.

A Posh Option for Pets Opens off Melrose Avenue

It’s no secret that residents of the West Hollywood area love their pets, and now there is a new pet care facility and retail store conveniently located on Harper at Melrose. The aptly named PoshPetCare is located right around the corner from several high end stores and boutiques. In addition to the full suite of services and products that you’d expect, Posh will also market itself as a convenient short term place where pets can stay while their owners stroll through the shops on Melrose. But while the name, products, services and location are posh, the pricing is actually quite reasonable. Day care is provided at a flat rate, and there are no overage charges after a certain amount of time, and most services such as feeding and walking are also included.

Hide your Cats and Dogs! Coyote Sightings Increase

There have been coyote sightings in the area of West Hollywood, Hollywood Hills and Beverly Hills. In response, the City of West Hollywood has notified Los Angeles County Department of Agricultural Weights and Measures and urges residents to take preventative measures. While these sightings can bring about moderate alarm, and there is a genuine need for concern, simple precautionary measures can be taken by residents to help reduce risk. Coyotes are considered a widely adaptable and opportunistic animal. In order to reduce the potential danger attributed to the presence of coyotes, residents are encouraged to reduce what these animals are seeking, which is primarily food and water.

UPDATE: We’ve been informed by Animal Advocates that a home has been found for Byron! by Brian Watson, Co-Owner, Posh Pet Care

We’ve had great results in featuring pets in need here on Weho Daily, and the latest dog that is in urgent need of a loving home is Byron. One of the rescue organizations we work with, Animal Advocates, says he has been at the shelter way too long, and the need for him to find a home is “beyond urgent now as the Baldwin Park Shelter is getting way too many owner turn-ins and needs kennel space. Please save him!” Byron is an exuberant one year old tricolor neutered male German Shepherd mix puppy found stray on May 16th and brought to the Baldwin Park shelter.
