The Los Angeles County Fire Department will offer free instruction in “Sidewalk CPR” from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 7, 2012, at the Great Hall at Plummer Park, 7737 Santa Monica Boulevard.
No appointment is necessary, as firefighters will be offering this important training all afternoon during these hours. Wait times should be minimal for instruction, and an entire training session should only take approximately 10 minutes.
Bystander (“sidewalk”) CPR is conducted with hands only. Statistics show that only 32 percent of cardiac arrest victims receive CPR from bystanders: many people are concerned they might do something wrong. But it’s important to know that when victims are given CPR immediately after a cardiac arrest, their chance of survival triples.
