Weho Daily broke the news yesterday to our readers on Twitter that the suspect wanted for the March 4th apartment fire on Sweetzer was apprehended after Sheriff’s deputies received word she was in the area.
West Hollywood Sheriff’s deputies located the suspect, now identified as 25 year-old Samantha Scarano, at the Body Shop on Sunset. The location is right around the corner from the fire location. An anonymous tip had reported that she was at the location performing.
Deputies immediately responded and surrounded the location to ensure all exits were covered. They then entered the business and located the suspect, possibly in the dressing room area.
Scarano was taken into custody at about 4:30PM without incident.
On Sunday, March 4, 2012, a fire was reported at the 1400 Block of North Sweetzer Avenue, West Hollywood, shortly before 2:00 AM. When deputies and personnel from the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived, they saw two apartment units on fire. Approximately fifty people had to be evacuated from the apartment complex that ultimately sustained approximately $300,000.00 in structural damage.
Upon further investigation, investigators quickly determined the fire was suspicious in nature and were able to identify Scarano as the person responsible for setting the fire.
Previous reports said that Scarano was a former roommate of the person living in the apartment. The fire was apparently started after lighter fluid and burning paper were thrown in through a window.
Scarano was booked for Attempted Murder at West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station and is being held in lieu of $1,250,000.00 bail.
