Rapper Tyler the Creator was arrested in West Hollywood late last night after he allegedly trashed some sound equipment inside The Roxy on the Sunset Strip.
The 20-year-old MTV award winner had performed at the venue earlier in the evening.
Around 11:30pm, deputies were contacted by security guards employed by the Roxy and stated the lead singer, Tyler Okonma, of the group “Odd Nation” had just destroyed an electronic soundboard belonging to the Venue. Suspect Okonma exited the location and was placed under arrest by deputies for Felony Vandalism, due to the value of the electronic soundboard.
As he was being escorted to a nearby radio car, the crowd exiting the venue, became angry and rushed into the street, towards the deputies. The deputies requested assistance as the crowd became unruly. Units from Universal Substation, LASD Aero Bureau and Beverly Hills Police Department responded and assisted deputies in dispersing the crowd.
Sunset Blvd. was closed between Doheny and San Vicente Blvd. for approximately thirty minutes.
Okonma was transported to West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station where he was booked for the vandalism charge. No deputies or civilians were injured and there were no other arrests.
According to our friends at TMZ and reports from our readers on Twitter, Tyler was taken into custody in front of his mother … who was visibly upset and yelled at the cops.
Tyler was arrested on suspicion of vandalism and was taken to a nearby station to be booked.
