According to the Sheriff’s Department, a white Ford Econoline van was driving southbound on San Vicente from Melrose and collided with a tree.  The vehicle rolled several times ejecting the driver, who was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver suffered extensive head trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident occurred on a stretch of San Vicente Blvd where residents have been seeking changes to slow down traffic.  After a study, the City of West Hollywood determined that an additional traffic light and cross walk were not appropriate in the area and that speeding was not a significant problem.

ismael, sorry about your cousin…it sucks to lose someone you love especially when it could have been avoided. calling these people who live near that section of san vicente assholes is inappropriate and uncalled for. whether your cousin was speeding on purpose or fell asleep is inconsequential when you are scrambling to get out of his way as he’s racing toward you. the truth is that his was one of a million speeding cars on that street and the problem should be addressed. if you read the comments again, you’ll see that no one accused your cousin of drunk driving, they were simply saying that for the city to say that people don’t speed right there is like saying that people don’t drive drunk in weho. it’s a shame that he wasn’t wearing his seatbelt, he would most likely have walked away from the accident if he had been buckled in.

Im sorry I understand I was just very angry at the moment and also emotianal. My cousin was a 21 year old hard working man who had two jobs and also went to college he had just graduated and was going to be in the criminal justice field when this happened he had just left his security guard job and was tired so this followed.
