Weather: 68° on the Sunset Strip

Fashion, Shopping

West Hollywood’s cutting edge fashion community will participate in the world’s largest fashion celebration, Fashion’s Night Out, on September 8. This will mark the return for a second year of the event in the city.

Businesses all over West Hollywood, including many in The Avenues and several on The Sunset Strip, will participate by extending hours and hosting events. Attendees can expect celebrity appearances and designer showcases along with an abundance of food, wine and fashion. The City of West Hollywood will run free shuttles throughout the evening.

Fashion’s Night Out is a collaboration between American Vogue, the Council of Fashion Designers of America, NYC & Company, and the City of New York that was created to celebrate fashion, restore consumer confidence, boost the industry’s economy, and put the fun back in shopping.

This year, West Hollywood plans to build on the success of last year’s local event and will be announcing it’s programming in the coming months. Last year, during the city’s inaugural participation, West Hollywood fashion retailers pulled out all the stops, hosting fabulous parties and drawing huge crowds.

3.1 Phillip Lim hosted the “Birds and Boys” exhibit by James Jean, which had a tremendous turnout of fashion lovers including actress Rashida Jones and director Gia Coppola. Nearly all the artworks sold that night with proceeds benefiting the Costume Council at LACMA. In addition, the store reported larger sales numbers than last year’s Black Friday—the biggest sales day of the year.

Other stores experienced similar success. Beckley offered shoppers a variety of delights from “Diane Von Furstenburgers” to private Beckley pedicab rides to surrounding events. The boutique experienced a double in typical Friday sales. At Alpha, live voguers posed in the window as customers were treated to door prizes. John Varvatos included a photo studio, acoustical musical performance, gallery exhibit and treated those who spent over $300 to a portrait taken by legendary rock photographer Robert Knight. Other participating retailers included Live! On Sunset, Vera Wang, Code C, Andrew Christian, and Arcade.

On September 10, 2010, Fashion’s Night Out will return to New York City and launch in cities nationwide to put the fun back in shopping, with designer appearances, live windows, celebrity guests, and other special events.

Around the world, and led by fifteen international Vogue editions (Australia, Britain, China, France, Germany, Greece, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Taiwan, and Turkey), each country will celebrate Fashion’s Night Out on one night between Sept 7 and Sept 16, 2010.
