Weho Daily received numerous reports of problems in the area on Sunday related to the weather, on top of an increased number of traffic collisions. And so did the Sheriff, Los Angeles Police Department, and Fire Departments.

The Los Angeles Fire Department, which serves areas just outside of West Hollywood, said it was their busiest day of the year. Despite the L.A. Marathon occurring early in the day, it contributed very little to this distinction. There was a 62% increase in 911 calls to the LAFD on Sunday, and that increase was almost entirely attributed calls not involving medical transport type calls that were the primary type associated with the marathon. The biggest increase was in flooding incidents (212) followed by electrical power incidents (199).

A tree fell over, uprooted, on Fuller near Fountain Ave just after 4PM and smashed at least one car and caused damage to a number of others.  Weho Daily @FantabHimbo sent us some photos.  Other trees were down in the area, including a large tree we got a photo of from Tim Mersman.

On Holloway, there was a four vehicle collision with one vehicle into a pole.  Up Laurel Canyon, an SUV was reported off the roadway and a cliff.  Quite a number of other accidents have occurred in the area.

We’ve also been receiving reports of power problems.  A transformer was said to have caught fire near Huntley and Melrose.  “We heard it explode, and power surged at our house,” said reader @Brandy29.

And reader @ToThrive reported,  “Incredible wind gust just hit Sierra Towers and power blipped out for a flash…more of a brownout type of power ebb.”

Other power problems have left traffic signals inoperative, including near Cedars-Sinai and on La Cienega Blvd.  Parts of Laurel Canyon were also reportedly without power.

Southern California Edison reported 49,808 customers were without power due to storms as of 5PM.  LA DWP reported about 10,000 customers were affected.
