West Hollywood Sheriff’s deputies and Los Angeles Police responded to reports of a series of robbery incidents and an attempted carjacking tonight that appear to be related. There were reports of three robberies, an attempted robbery and an incident reported as an attempted carjacking.
In addition, windows were smashed and at least two businesses were burglarized in the same general central West Hollywood vicinity, though it is not yet known if these incidents are related.
There were three suspects in the robbery and carjacking incidents, and most victims reported all three to be black males, however some victims reported that one of the suspects may have been a white or hispanic male. One was wearing a white hoodie with a red undershirt and was in his 20’s in age and about 5’8″ tall. The other two suspects were wearing black hoodies, possibly in their teens, and one was about 6’3″ in height.
The incidents tonight were unusual and fairly brazen as the suspects apparently were in no hurry to flee the area, or they continually returned to the area, over about a 2 hour period.
The first incident was an armed robbery that occurred on Hayworth just south of Santa Monica Blvd at 9:15pm. The victim’s wallet and mobile phone were taken.
Another attempted robbery occurred about 20 minutes later at Genesee and Hampton by suspects matching a similar description.
In the third incident, a robbery was reported from near Edinburgh and Romaine at about 11pm.
An attempted carjacking then almost immediately occurred behind the Circus of Books store on Santa Monica Blvd near La Jolla at about 11:10pm.
A short time later, at about 11:30pm, a robbery was reported from Fountain and Fuller in the City of Los Angeles.
West Hollywood has seen a surge in the number of robberies reported in recent weeks. On November 15, we collected statistics showing that at least 20 robbery reports had been made in the previous 30 day period (not including robberies that occurred on streets just outside West Hollywood). Those numbers included another spree of robberies on November 7 involving three young suspects that bear a resemblance to the suspects described in the incidents tonight.
