The world’s largest and most outrageous Halloween celebration – the West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval will celebrate the 35th Anniversary of the Rocky Horror Picture Show on Sunday, October 31, 2010.  Among the festivities will be an attempt at a world record for the largest Time Warp dance ever assembled.

The festivities will kickoff at 6 p.m., followed by a Carnaval March starting at 7 p.m. at the corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and La Cienega. Members of the West Hollywood City Council will lead the Carnaval March on pedi-floats as well as a colorful cast of characters including members of the Rocky Horror Picture Show cast and stage performers. The public is invited to join in the festivities and participate in the Carnaval March.

After hours of fun wandering the streets viewing outrageous costumes and exciting entertainment on numerous stages, the West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval will close out with an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest Time Warp dance.  The attempt will take place across all six West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval performance stages at 10:45 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help break the record!

“The City of West Hollywood is thrilled to be showcasing the Rocky Horror Picture Show as this year’s Halloween Carnaval feature entertainment,” said West Hollywood Mayor John Heilman. “Rocky Horror celebrates its 35th anniversary this year. It is a perfect fit with the City’s 25th birthday. We look forward to enjoying The Time Warp together,” continued Mayor Heilman.

On stage, Rocky Horror made its U.S. debut at the Roxy Theatre, right here in West Hollywood on the Sunset Strip, on March 21, 1974.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the 1975 film adaptation of the British musical stageplay “The Rocky Horror Show.” The movie is a parody of science fiction and B-movie horror films. Still in limited release 35 years after its premiere, The Rocky Horror Picture Show is hailed as the king of Midnight cult films and has been in distribution longer than any film in the history of motion pictures.

The West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval will include a Rocky Horror Picture Show Stage located on Santa Monica Boulevard and San Vicente Boulevard and will feature a special performance of the Rocky Horror Picture Show starting at 9:15 p.m., hosted by legendary Rocky Horror Picture Show MC, Sal Piro.

Another stage, at Santa Monica Blvd and Almont, will be headlined by dragtastic glam rock group Tranzcontinental.
