A new mobile phone application launched today called WehoKey, and it promises to deliver great deals to you wherever you might be in West Hollywood.

The app, initially available for the iPhone and via a mobile website on on other phones, is designed to help you get a great deals when you’re out and about around town.

It isn’t really a mobile yellow pages or a map site, nor is it a Twitter or FourSquare type application where you check in to various locations you may be visiting.

It seems to combine some features from those types of services, but it will have more of a focus on deals and special offers for participating West Hollywood businesses.

You can also earn points for taking certain actions, and eventually they may offer something like a virtual “punch card” type service (like the programs where you get a freebie after 10 haircuts, or 10 pizzas at a business).

In addition, the app and mobile website incorporate a lot of social media features which enable visitors to publish things they like on WehoKey to Twitter and Facebook.

The application is put out by the West Hollywood Marketing & Visitors Bureau as an extension to their WH Insiders Program. On the program’s website you can already find deals for local businesses, such as free parking at hotels when you stay overnight, and discounts to merchants and restaurants.  The WehoKey app will extend those deals, and possibly more (and exclusive deals) to mobile devices.

You can get the app through the iTunes store by searching for “WehoKey” for the free downlod. To use the service on other devices, you can send a text message by typing “wehokey” to 313131.  Texting will return a link that you can use to access the service on any mobile phone with web access.

More than 100 businesses are participating at launch.  Those include RH Restaurant at Andaz, Train West Hollywood, Key Club, Alpha Man and many more.  The cost for businesses who wish to participate is $49 per month, but the company that operates the service says that includes service that makes it as easy as sending an email to publish information or deals to a business listing.
