LAist points out that it’s the last Friday of the month, and that means hundreds of cyclists under the guise of Critical Mass will take to the streets tonight. The LAPD will join in, albeit with a smaller presence than the one made in June.

The bike of Luis Deliz lays smashed after a hit and run driver took off on December 1. She was found up on the Sunset Strip a short time later.
Today’s ride, however, will make a special stop at the Beverly Hills Courthouse to announce a new campaign. The riders are upset about what they see as a sentence handed down in that city, to the driver in a West Hollywood hit and run accident that left a bike rider in the hospital for 49 days.
The December 1st incident was one of the earliest covered by Weho Daily. We captured video of the scene just following the accident (see below). Based on our recollection, the Sheriff said that the riders hair and teeth were found on and inside the back window of her vehicle.
Once pulled out of the car, she sheepishly asked, “did I hit something?”
The bike riders may be particularly upset tonight as we just heard about a car hitting a bike on Santa Monica Blvd in front of the Beverly Hills Civic Center area just now, around 5PM.
The bike riders are going to meet east of West Hollywood, but they will be making their way over to Beverly Hills, and that puts us on perhaps the most direct route. So don’t be surprised to see them.
UPDATE: The group traveled from a starting point at Sunset Blvd and Western, to Olympic Blvd, to Burton Way and then on to the Beverly Hills Courthouse. They remained there for the planned protest, then on their return, came through West Hollywood via Santa Monica Blvd to Fairfax. They went south on Fairfax to Pan Pacific Park for a short break before heading back to Hollywood. The turnout appeared to be very high, with one Beverly Hills Police officer estimating the group at 1,300 riders.

where’s the update on the hit and run driver? What was the guy’s name? What was the girl’s name? Surely you know she has pleaded and been sentenced – yet you don’t mention it?
You can call yourself a newspaper, but no one else would, not with this kind of slack-jaw reporting.

The City needs to make sure the bike lane on Santa Monica Blvd. extends all the way from Hollywood to the beach, on both sides.
That area is not well marked traveling in front of the BH Civic Center towards Hollywood, I usually take the road parallel to it one street down then turn left on Doheney up to Santa Monica Blvd all the way down to Hollywood.
The person who got hit should sue the City of Beverly Hills for damages. In a city of this size a total no-brainer to have a clearly defined bike path from LA, to Hollywood, and from Hollywood to the beach via the most direct street (shortest distance) from one destination to the next. And that is Santa Monica Blvd, I ride it and do just fine even at night.
Time to crack down on texting/drunk drivers.

Actually, “danny”… this Weho Daily “slackjaw” reporting outfit was the ONLY outlet to report on the incident LIVE as it happened. We cover more news in West Hollywood than any other source. In fact, the other “newspaper” at the time asked us to use photos of the scene from our video of the coverage. This article is about the protest and ride tonight at a high level. We do mention that the protest is ABOUT THE SENTENCE she got, so contrary to your allegation, we DO MENTION IT. More details are available via the link we provide to LAist.
