It appears that Derrick Gardner, the 22 year old young man that was hit by a car last week in West Hollywood, has passed away.

We feel terrible about the previous news we reported that turned out to be incorrect, but now we are hearing from Bobby Trendy that he passed away at 2:45am this morning. Bobby was with him yesterday and overnight.
Derrick was being cared for at the Sapperstein Critical Care Tower at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, according to Bobby.
We received another email in the early morning hours from someone else close to Derrick but, perhaps due to the grief, the message wasn’t clear.
The accident occurred at San Vicente and Rangely, just south of Melrose Avenue, on Thursday, July 1. The area has been trying to get a crosswalk installed near that location for years.

Derrick’s mother said in an email to WehoConfidential:
I just want to Thank you all for your kind words. I will update all of you. Derrick came into the Hospital Thursday after being hit by a car..His injuries were so servere he was instantly in a coma on scene. They did surgery as his brain was so swollen. They took off his left side of his skull to try and relieve pressu…re. The truth is he was gone and they couldn’t do anything. We sit here waiting for him to pass. Please keep all the great memories of Derrick alive and not the negative ones. He wasn’t perfect but he was loved by many. The family has not set up any donations for him just yet to help with the funeral cost so if asked for a donation please know We did not set this up.

Derrick’s death is a real tragedy. He worked for me when he was living in Maine. He was always a kind, caring, and fun person. The world is a much sadder place without him. His friends will always remember his great smile and enthusiasm. We will miss him very much. My sincere condolences to his family. How sad!

I knew Derrick when he was living in Portland, ME about 2 or 3 years ago. He was the sweetest, most energetic person I had met in a long time….my heart and tears for you and your loved ones Derrick…you were to young to be taken like that….

My heartfelt condolances to Derrick’s family. He was a shining star who burned vibrantly and brightly and, like that star, he streaked thru our lives all too quickly.

I opine thers something wrong with you- some one who’s upset with his life living a life of frivolity and pontifcating comments with unintended consequence,Bob I was there at the hospital for Derrick all day sunday through out the nite holding his hand. While others just posted on their face books and others sites..I saw most of those queens at the club last nite which is ten lites further from westhollywood when the hospital he was in was only two lights down the street. Can you PLEASE stop the arguing. With the loss of my nephew Derrick, our family has enough to go through without all the added DRAMA. I want to thank everyone of you that had kind words to say about my nephew and the rest of you .. take your drama elsewhere. I am very sorry to ask this as I know that it is all still so new and the pain is still great (I am feeling it), but will there be a memorial service held here in Maine where Derrick was from? Derrick was a fun sprit at all the clubs and will be very very missed. As Far you Bobby Trendy haters goe- its seems that when tragedy surmounts Bobby comes through-seems to everyone he was the only one who was in the hospital and cared enough to visit while others just posted online messages..I rememeber when Kiwi and Hunter died in 2007 what how his generous pocket book spoke and how he came forward…Even cleaned up thier apts and sent belongings back to family memebers..Alot is said just for visting a person who is laying down in my opinion…I live wayyy in palmsprings now..if any thing should happen I know at least one person will come see me.RIP Derrick

I am so sorry to here about your loss , Derrick meant allot to everyone! He was the sweetest kid, No matter how old he got he still would give me a hug when he saw me and always call me ant Bonny it was the cutest thing! i was talking to some people at Friendly’s who worked with him and they all remember his smile and how he would love to make them smile, He was a great person! and what a CHEERLEADER he made! I use to love to see him tumble! He will be missed

hey derrick…if your reading this,then you already know what I’m bout to write …and how I feel….I barelly knew you…and I thank god for at least letting me have a chance to meet you…God works in mysterious ways and he ALWAYS place certain people in your life to shape you, learn from and make you the person we are today….everything happens for a reason…your departure wasnt a fair reason…BUT GOD MAKES NO MISTAKES!!! HE AN AWESOME AND OPEN MINDED GOD, THERE IS NOTHING!!!!!! ON THIS PLANET!!!!!
