Sheriff’s Deputies were called repeatedly to the 800 block of Larrabee, between Santa Monica Blvd and Cynthia St, on Sunday and early Monday morning for a report of kidnapping or false imprisonment that involved the taking of a small dog.
Deputies were first called to the location around 6:40PM on Sunday on a reported kidnapping. A helicopter responded to the incident along with deputies on the ground and the fire department and rescue squad. A female adult reported that she was held hostage at the location and her dog was taken. The victim was taken to Cedars.
The suspects were a white male in a red shirt with a goatee, who left the scene on foot, and a white female, last seen with the dog in a shoulder bag. One or both of the suspects were possibly known to Sheriff’s Deputies from other encounters. It wasn’t immediately clear if the victim and suspects knew each other.
The Sheriff returned to the location at around 9PM to continue the investigation.
Deputies were called back to the location at about 1:30AM on Monday morning, when the suspect was reported to have returned to and was asking for $500 for the return of the dog.
It appears that one of the suspects, a white male 25 to 30 years old, about 5’7″ tall with a muscular build, left the scene on a mountain bike before Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and was followed by the person informing the Sheriff about his return to the location. He was located a short time later at Alfred and Romaine, where he was positively identified by the victim at curbside. The female suspect was also located.
Deputies were considering charges including robbery for taking the chihuahua, and false imprisonment for circumstances surrounding the taking of it. Both suspects were taken into custody.
Unfortunately, it appears that the dog has not yet been located.
